The Nonprofit Support Center of Santa Barbara County is a management services organization (M.S.O.) that provides training workshops and roundtables, management consulting and resource and referral services to nonprofit organizations in our region.
The Mission of NSC is to educate, convene, and provide leadership to our nonprofit community, combining the passion of commitment with excellence in performance.
To achieve our mission, we have demonstrated Program Success, Organizational Stability and Financial Stability. This report describes our progress.
PROGRAM SUCCESS
NSC has 339 members, a significant share of community nonprofits

NSC member organizations represent communities throughout our region.

We had 55% membership growth in our Northern Region.
NSC member organizations represent nonprofits of all sizes.
Professional Development Training and Consulting
- In 2004, total attendance at workshops, roundtables, funder events and center initiatives was 1096.
- 58% of our customers attended multiple workshops, roundtables or funder events.
- Participants in NSC Fund Development and Board Effectiveness courses may now receive college credit through a partnership with SBCC.
- 7 organizations used NSC consulting services. These engagements included long-term organizational development and short-term meeting facilitation.
- NSC forged a partnership with Fielding University that will provide enhanced strategic planning capabilities for area nonprofits.
Resource Center use continues to grow throughout our service area

- Since 2001, 500 NSC members have been trained to use the Foundation Center database, allowing nonprofits to search for foundation funding that fits.
- The Santa Barbara Resource Center was open 5 days per week and the Santa Maria Center was open 2 days per week
NSC took a leadership role in organizing the Independent Sector Forum, bringing nonprofits and area funders together to address sector wide issues and opportunities.
ORGANIZATIONAL STABILITY
- Recruited 2 new board members
- Retained key staff
- Volunteers donated 1170 hours to NSC, including 320 hours donated by regional professionals as volunteer trainers
FINANCIAL STABILITY
Achieved funding diversity by increasing number of supporting foundations and individual contributions
